BASS PLAYER LIVE! '06 Takes Over New York with Historic Concert, Workshops, Exhibit Hall
By BP Staff |
BASS PLAYER magazine presented the ultimate event for bassists and music lovers, Oct. 28 and 29, 2006. BASS PLAYER LIVE!, a two-day event featuring clinics, workshops, live interviews, and an exhibit hall, was held at New York’s Millennium Broadway Hotel, with an all-star concert at Sony Studios, featuring jazz legend Stanley Clarke.
Saturday’s concert featured Victor Wooten and Marcus Miller presenting the Bass Player Lifetime Achievement Award to Stanley Clarke. They followed the awards presentation with a historic performance featuring all three bassists on Clarke’s famous song, “School Days.” Clarke joined an elite group of Bass Player Lifetime Achievement Award recipients, including jazz great Ron Carter, Cream bassist Jack Bruce, session superstars Anthony Jackson and Will Lee, and Atlantic session veteran Jerry Jemmott.
Headlining the Saturday night’s concert was Bx3, the super bass trio of Billy Sheehan, Jeff Berlin, and Stuart Hamm. In addition to Wooten, Miller, Sheehan, Berlin, Hamm, and Clarke, the all-star roster of clinicians included Beck bassist Justin Meldal-Johnson, Paul Simon bassist Bakithi Kumalo, former Megadeth bassist David Ellefson, Steven Curtis Chapman bassist Adam Nitti, Beyoncé bassist MC Divinity, jazz greats Victor Bailey, Chris Mihn Doky, Ruben Rodriguez, Gerald Veasley, Bryan Beller, Steve Bailey, and Mark Egan. Bass Player magazine’s editors were on hand to conduct interviews, present workshops, and answer questions. With gear exhibits, live performances, and lessons for every skill level, Bass Player LIVE! provided bassists and other musicians a unique opportunity to learn from top professionals, improve their skills and knowledge, and get hands-on experience with the most up-to-date bass gear.
